An Amazing Legacy

Brother Andrew's organization called "Open Doors" was best known for smuggling bibles into communist countries around the world.

Having just watched his celebration of life, he left an amazing legacy.

One of the things that stood out for me during the service, was how Brother Andrew defined two words: "work" and "function".

In his mind, work meant you do what you want, when you want, taking up time and space.

Function was following God, in sync with Him, living life on the edge.

This was Brother Andrew.

In his lifetime, he stepped across the familiar and into the unknown, changing the lives of millions..

A global ministry which started with one step of obedience to God.

After taking that first step...

Brother Andrew took another step...

and then another.

His vision growing with every step.

He was known to say: "If your vision isn't scary, then your vision of God is way to small."

Brother Andrew set aside his own man made glory.

Instead choosing to fulfill God's purpose for his life.

He lived by faith.

Lived on the edge.

Totally devoted to the Lord, to prayer, and the Word.

Imprisonment and death was always one step away.

For Brother Andrew, the most dangerous place was to live outside the will of God. It was not finding his way into closed, Communist countries.

Rather than saying "Take care," he would encourage people to say, "Take risks."

Going forward, why not do the same?

Let us begin to take risks and step out of our comfort zone.

Let us follow God in a way that is radical and not passive.

Let us get out of the rut of familiarity and live life to the fullest, not knowing where we are going, except that we are following Christ.

Let us be ordinary people who find ways to do extraordinary things for God.

Let's live and watch what God can do through us, fully committed doing it all for the glory of God.
